ExxonMobil Aviation and Exel Petroleum (Pty) Ltd (Exel) are delighted to announce the formation of a new aviation fuels marketing company in South Africa. The new company, called Exelem Aviation (Pty) Ltd (Exelem), will sell Jet A-1 at Johannesburg from 1 April 2003.
ExxonMobil and Exel are shareholders in Exelem. Exel has recently become the first black empowerment oil company to be included in the fuel suppliers consortium at Johannesburg International Airport.
Formed in March 1997, Exel is unique in the South African oil industry as it was established as a black empowerment company and is majority-owned by black empowerment interests. Exel Petroleum Managing Director Maurice Radebe describes the entry to Johannesburg Airport and the formation of a joint venture with ExxonMobil as "A most welcome development and an important breakthrough for the furtherance of black empowerment in the oil industry. These announcements represent the culmination of many months of effort and negotiation."
ExxonMobil Aviation values the relationship with its partner, Exel, and is looking forward to this new venture. ExxonMobil Aviation will provide technical expertise and services to Exel and Exelem, including skills transfer in a range of commercial and technical areas.
ExxonMobil Aviation is proud to be able to offer solicitation at Johannesburg on behalf of Exelem and invites its existing International customers to send any tenders for business at Johannesburg International Airport to their ExxonMobil Aviation Sales Manager.
ExxonMobil Aviation is committed to selective investment to grow its business and bring to its customers new services in Africa.
