ExxonMobil set to fuel the first A380 flight

ExxonMobil Aviation is pleased to announce the signing of a significant long-term contract with Airbus France, to design and build a new jet fuel facility at the Aeroconstellation site in Toulouse and to supply fuel and operate the facility for the testing and operation of the future Airbus A380.

The A380 is due to be launched in 2006 and will be the largest commercial aircraft in the world, typically carrying 555 passengers.

To satisfy the complex requirements of the tender, a joint venture company, Aeroconstellation Fuelling Services, has been created between Esso S.A.F. and Spie Batignolles, the engineering and construction company. Aeroconstellation Fuelling Services will combine the technical and project expertise of both ExxonMobil and Spie Batignolles to meet the demanding requirements and timetable of this milestone aircraft launch.

The project consists of a fuel depot with receipt facilities, tankage and hydrant, defuelling facilities and all associated mobile equipment for aircraft fuelling, including support for the planned new maintenance operations in Toulouse.

The safety and environmental features incorporated into the design are of paramount importance, and utilise state-of-the-art spill protection and leak detection equipment.

The 18-year contract was signed in June by the Presidents of the three companies, on the Airbus stand at the Paris Le Bourget Airshow. The construction phase of the fuel facilities will now begin. Initial testing of the first production aircraft is expected to begin in 2004.

This is a fantastic achievement for the project team and the companies involved, and demonstrates the confidence that the aviation industry has in the technical expertise and operational excellence of ExxonMobil Aviation.
